The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs was established in 1975 AD (1395 AH) by Royal Decree No. (A/266) dated 8/10/1395 AH. Its responsibilities include urban planning for the Kingdom's cities, which encompasses providing roads and essential infrastructure, enhancing and beautifying urban areas, and developing municipal and rural regions. The ministry also oversees services essential for maintaining environmental cleanliness and health throughout the Kingdom. In 2021 AD (1442 AH), a royal decree merged the Ministry of Housing with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs.
