Completion of the Adequate Housing Project by rehabilitating 650 housing units in Aden Governorate
The Adequate Housing Project was concluded today as a result of a tripartite partnership between the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), Alwaleed Philanthropies, and UN-HABITAT, aimed at enhancing the living conditions of families in the Aden Governorate.
A ceremony was held at SDRPY’s headquarters in Riyadh to commemorate the occasion, attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Lamia bint Majed AlSaud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies; H.E. Ambassador Mohammed Al Jaber, SDRPY’s General Supervisor; His Excellency Eng. Salem Al-Harizi, Minister of Public Works and Roads in Yemen; Dr. Waed Badeeb, the Yemeni Minister of Planning and International Cooperation;
Ms. Rania Hedeya, the UN-Habitat Region Representative for the Regional Office of Arab States; and Dr. Erfan Ali, Chief of Staff at UN-Habitat.
The project, the first of its kind in Yemen’s housing sector, was designed to provide safe living conditions for Yemeni families. It has successfully benefited over 4,500 beneficiaries, representing 900 families. This achievement was realized by rehabilitating 650 housing units in the Mualla and Khormaksar districts of the Aden Governorate, aiming to foster a better urban future for the community.
Moreover, the Adequate Housing Project has contributed to job creation and the development of skills in housing, construction, and building through training workshops, thereby enhancing the impact of this project on promoting community stability and sustainable development.
Additionally, SDRPY has implemented development projects and initiatives in eight essential sectors, including education, health, water, energy, transportation, agriculture, and fisheries, enhancing and strengthening Yemeni government capabilities, and developed development programs in 14 Yemeni governorates.
